Squeezing Out the Last Drops of Summer
It's been a fantastic, full summer. Full of good times with friends and family, hiking, biking, swimming, and berry/apple picking on both sides of the Canada-US border, laughter, warmth, and memories. I can't say that I have a single regret. That said, I still wanted to make the most of the last weekend before, gulp, the start of school.
On Saturday we went canoeing at Bon Echo Provincial Park. On Sunday we consignment shopped (not terribly successfully, but after my spectacular find of two weeks ago, a brand new Columbia snowsuit for Eleanor, only $4, I suppose others deserve a chance at the good stuff). Today we biked a stretch of the Long Sault Parkway following a picnic lunch on a grassy hilltop overlooking the St. Lawrence River.
Emilia is completely ready for kindergarten. Truth be told, she was probably ready last year. Time will tell how ready I am. I thought we'd walk to her school tonight, just to see how long it would take. We run there often, but never with a backpack or a deadline. We didn't make it very far before the mosquitoes forced us to turn back. I suppose they were squeezing out the last drops of summer too...
Speaking of drops, mustn't cry tomorrow. At least not while she's looking.
