A Most Memorable Mother's Day

My two best friends collaborated to give me a very special Mother's Day gift this year. Martin, who has more areas of expertise than just about anyone else I know, also knows in which areas he lacks expertise. In this case I'm alluding to fibre crafts, namely knitting and crocheting. Enter Robyn, my best non-spousal friend, who shares my love of fibre crafts (and many other things as well). From work, Martin accessed a database of government employees' e-mail addresses and wrote to Robyn, who sent him the password to her Ravelry account (Ravelry being an online community of knitters and crocheters, a forum for showcasing finished projects, and a vast database of potential next ones), from which he was able to view my project queue. My queue contains something in the order of 93 projects I hope to pursue someday, including Roo. Roo is a gorgeous cabled sweater jacket I'd earmarked for Emilia last summer but for which I hadn't yet purchased the pattern because, well, it had to be purchased, whereas eighty-something of the remaining items in my queue were (and still are) offered free of charge. Roo, coincidentally, is what we called Emilia until we learned her gender and subsequently chose her name. Not only did Martin buy me the pattern, but he had to create a Ravelry account in order to do so. If that's not love, I don't know what is! Many thanks to my two best friends and, of course, Emilia/Roo, for making this Mother's Day especially memorable.
