Reading by Flashlight

I don't recall ever being discouraged from reading in bed, so I rather doubt that I tended to read by flashlight. Last night, however, a flashlight was strictly necessary for the purpose of reading. I hesitate to call it a monsoon, but a very aggressive storm visited us yesterday afternoon, the aftermath of which won't soon fade away. We lost power until a couple of hours before we got up this morning and with it running water, as our well pump runs on electricity. We opted to drive to town to buy bread for dinner, rather than open the refrigerator and let out the cold, since we were driving in for water anyway. (We could have survived on the soda we keep around for company, of course, but I don't personally like soda, and I'm especially wary of giving soda to children. Besides, we had the car and nothing better to do.) The storm also uprooted a 50-foot tree on our property and several others of various sizes nearby. It was during a walk to survey the damage (and because we had nothing better to do) that we saw the hydro workers arrive and decided against starting up our generator because it wouldn't be very much longer. Here are a few pictures of downed trees, beginning with our own.
