Every once in a while I stumble upon a project idea too perfect and/or timely to relegate to the end of my crafting queue. Emilia's Christmas apron, for example. It's one of the best (and simplest) patterns I've yet to encounter. Not only is it super cute; it's designed to foster independence too. Encased in the neck strap is a piece of elastic, and the waist strap attaches with Velcro, so even a very small child can don/remove it him/herself. Many thanks to Meg McElwee of

Emilia just loves to imitate Mommy. Often she'd rather sweep or help with the dishes than stack blocks or draw on her chalkboard. I'm fully aware that 'nothing gold can stay', and I'm relishing these moments while I can. Just as I relish any opportunity to make something special for someone special. The cookware, by the way, is made in the U.S. entirely from recycled milk jugs. I don't think we'll ever have too many
