Full steam ahead!

First of all, I'm going to bank on the assumption that my three year old Francophone nephew won't read this post and find out ahead of time what I made him for Christmas!

I'm so happy with this little conductor cap (tutorial here). I've always enjoyed crafting, but until recently I hadn't particularly challenged myself. I'd never before sewn with interfacing, or even wool, let alone attempted a size-sensitive garment/accessory for which I couldn't depend on actual elastic (as in the waistband of Emilia's pajama pants) or at least built-in elasticity (as in the ribbed open end of her knitted stocking cap).

The other thing I love about this project is that I was able to use leftover material from a dress my mother made me 20 years ago to play an immigrant woman in a youth production of Ellis Island. And there's plenty left. Who knows what projects await... down the line!
